What happens to foster children that turn 18 in care? The statistics are that around 4000 of them will become homeless each year because they were not taught the skills needed to become self-sufficient adults. Funding has been made available thru bills such as AB 12 to help alleviate this issue. However, these funds are very limited.
Any money raised will go directly to the care and maintenance of the homes as well as providing much-needed supplies for the youth.
While we have been around a long time (over 35 years) this is a new en-devour for us. We truly feel we have a program that can help these youth succeed.
Atkinson Youth Services
Atkinson Youth Services THPP NMD program wishes to inspire, direct, guide, and foster youth to achieve financial, educational, and personal goals. Our goal is to help guide youth into adulthood by teaching them the skills needed to become productive and self-sufficient adults.
The Mission of Atkinson Youth Services is inspired by the desire to serve Jesus Christ through services to youth. Valuing the sacredness and dignity of life, Atkinson Youth Services is committed to providing services which enhance and develop skills needed to improve the quality of life and healthy relationships.
In a home-like environment, our facilities offer private rooms shared bathrooms and living areas such as kitchen, living room, and yard. We will serve youth ages 18 to 21 who have remained in foster care thru the extended system.
Independent Living Skills
We will provide a program that is rich in independent living skills. Skills such as paying bills, managing money/budgeting, nutrition, cooking/preparing meals, laundry, maintenance and a host of others
Additionally, we will assist youth in obtaining records, how to use the health care system, mental health services, transportation systems, educational systems, and ILP services (to name a few).
A program social worker and the Executive Director/Admin will meet weekly, a min of 1 hour, with each client to either train, provide support, or assist youth with their needs.
The support staff will be provided to assist youth as needed.
