The Power Of One

Alpha Leadership Academy, Inc. (ALA) is driven by the vision to transform every youth age 10-25 through leadership and technology skills to become creative, innovative, critical thinkers, and entrepreneurs with a sense of purpose. Many youths lack the college and career skills required to find and maintain employment. By empowering them to become critical thinkers, creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs-through mentorship and leadership, exams preparation - Alpha Leadership Academy Inc. engages as a high impact, mission-driven organization. The curriculum framework of Alpha Leadership Academy Inc. consists of mentorship, leadership, technology, social-emotional health, entrepreneurship, instruction, along with literacy seminars, communication and interpersonal skills development, interviewing skills, resume and job application preparation.

 The goal is to provide all young people with maximum support and resources that will help them learn at the highest levels, live a more impactful, meaningful, significant life, and become productive citizens. We directly address the chronic dropout rates in schools, low graduation rate, incarceration rate, gangs and violence, early pregnancy, and other high-risk behaviors stemming from disengagement from schools in urban cities.

Our target area is primarily East Flatbush and the Canarsie area of Brooklyn, while not excluding economically disadvantaged and deprived communities nearby. We aim to grow a community of support for all youth through education and strategic partnerships with the local community and senior colleges, business, social sector, and including the local school system with its own variety of partnerships. Mission-driven organizations play a role in helping private citizens connect to private markets and community or government resources, services, and products. They provide advocacy, develop leadership and social capital, and create social change with significant and sustained results (Crutchfield and Grant, 2012).

Our expenses for administering this program for the year 2020 is approximately $113,000.00.  We have planned future funding strategies for fall 2020, and we have also benefited from in-kind donations, however, we need cash donations to keep the program viable at this immediate time.  Our need has become even more urgent as we have had some unforeseen setbacks and expenses with the recent COVID pandemic and New York State on PAUSE.

Our youths are benefiting greatly from our programs.  Our Leadership training is dedicated to train youths to become positive transformational  leaders.  Through socio-emotional learning, we have seen demonstrations of more positive attitudes toward school and life in general, increased self-confidence and self-esteem, improved relationships in the home, and stronger communication skills.  Through our technology classes, our youths are now able to code in HTML which is allowing them to create a website based on HTML.  They are also learning how to use collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.

Our basketball program uses instructional drills, visual aids, and other teaching techniques to teach dribbling, shooting, footwork, passing, defense, offense, moving without the ball.  Alpha Leadership Basketball is not limited to one dibble; the first dribble is the first step towards leadership.  The first of many towards identifying, developing, and transforming the leader within.  We have seen in our youth personal growth and maturity, self-confidence, self-respect, and respect for others, discipline, commitment, and teamwork.
