The Giving Tree's purpose is to mimic the public social service model with less bureaucracy and more efficiency. Through a combination of private citizen donations (of time, skill and money) individuals can be served through our community service agency to find, secure, afford and utilize the breadth of services available to them. Our role is one of problem-solving, case management, networking, education, and advocacy.
What do we need?
We are looking to set up a free call center and resource website to make gaining access to information easier for those that need help. Our social service system is slow, bureaucratic and poorly funded. Questions need answers BUT the helpers need help!
TLC Support Services and The Giving Tree need funds to offset our current billable hours. There are folks we can't help because they don't fall under the auspice of a billable service. There are many times we help anyway, as NON-BILLABLE hours, but those add up and it is hard to make payroll sometimes!
Who do our services help?
If something tragic (or just regular daily life) happens to you or a family member today, who do you call to ask insurance questions, to find a specialist, to access home care, to find elder care, to get services for a special needs child?
You need answers now! Where do you turn ... to the internet...? Hopefully, that's where you'll find us!
If you had a friend with the answers, that's who you would call. It's kind of like one of those referral services (like Ang@%$ List or 1 %00 Dentist) We are just here to help you get the info.
What if you are a parent of a special needs child, who do you call? The school district? What if they don't want to pay for the help you need. Who is the next call?
What if you have a car accident and you can't return to work? What is covered? What are you supposed to do? You hopefully have a friend or family member with the answers...
Welcome to the family!
