A family with a Veteran, First Responder, person with a disability or terminal illness is taken to a hunting or fishing camp for a weekend, taught how to do this safely, given the confidence to go back out and do it again with their children, and are able to enjoy the outdoors once again. We find that people who have enjoyed the outdoors but later suffered from an accident, PTSD, or other physical or mental issue stay inside more. With COVID, children are spending more time inside. There is more substance abuse, domestic violence, stress and anxiety than ever before, and assisting men and women to regain the confidence to go outdoors and also enjoy these activities as a family is HUGE and makes a world of difference in their lives. We have included those with food insecurities, and on our way home, we stop and purchase approximately 1 month of groceries for the family, to allow them to breathe a little easier, and have a bit more time to continue their new love for the outdoors. We teach them weapons or water safety, plant recognition, snake and spider recognition, fire safety, and when they want, cooking. We have brought families closer, taught skills that are so necessary right now, and given them a little room to not worry so much during such trying times. As a combat Veteran with PTSD, I know how important this outlet can be, and I beg you to consider helping us continue to schedule these trips, which cost between $500-$1000 per family, which includes travel, lodging, food, entertainment, and annual hunting/fishing licenses for each of them. This also helps pay for our instructors, life guards, and trainers that ensure every event is as safe as possible.
