We are excited to announce that we are reviving the San Clemente Urban Farm with renewed energy. We have built an inspiring team ready to meet the nonprofit’s goals of providing food for the local community, creating a space for outdoor education, and inspiring the community to live a healthy and sustainable life. In the spirit of giving, we are kindly reaching out to raise donations for us to meet these goals. With your help, we can revive the farm and creating a thriving space!
We started the farm as a way to help the community and serve people in need. We knew with Tower Garden we could provide healthy food quickly and in great quantities. Our mission is to supply local food pantries serving food insecure families with the highest quality food that is truly beyond organic. We work to raise awareness of sustainable farming practices, and water conservation. We work to involve the community by providing volunteerism opportunities, and a community composting collaborative.
Utilizing Future Growing’s®️ aeroponic technology which re-circulates valuable water, San Clemente Urban Farms uses 95% less water, 90% less space, and never uses any harmful chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. The technology benefits urban growers and consumers alike, Since the aeroponic plants grown on Tower Gardens®️ are more nutrient-dense than traditional produce, they grow extremely fast and produce living produce with the roots still intact.
In the coming year success will be predicated on returning the farm to producing at its full capability of six and one half crop harvest per tower per year. The farm consists of 40 aeroponic towers with 44 plant sites each. Using nutrient dense lettuce as an example it is capable of providing a consistent weekly harvest of 220 lettuce heads from five towers in continuous rotation. Each group of five towers will be fully planted at all times and at sequential development stages. Five towers at week one of growth, 5 towers at week two of growth, and in like manner through six to eight weeks ready for harvest. The harvested lettuce are then delivered to Family assistance Ministries, a 501-C3 non-profit partner serving food insecure families in San Clemente, and neighboring cities. In addition to providing food for those in need, we hope to expand our impact on the local community by providing outdoor education opportunities for local schools.
The Covid-19 global Pandemic had severe negative impact on the farms ability to continue in delivering on its mission. Our volunteers were for great periods of time unable to come and help work at the farm. Additionally, the farm manager moved on to a career furthering opportunity. In September of 2022 we have brought on a new Executive director (volunteer)  to help revitalize the farm. Donations are requested to help us reach our goal of $15,000.00 which will support general operations including salary for a farm manager, seeds, nutrients, and organic grow media."
