I have founded and created a website, safehousingnow.com which will be used to provided Survivors of domestic violence immediate access to safe shelter in real time. This resource is the first of its kind and the impact on those survivors who are fleeing to be free can save lives. Every 9 seconds a woman is being abused and many have children who can nothing to stop it. And they stay because they have nowhere to go and some don't make it out alive.
As a survivor for 20 years and a mother, I know the importance of having immediate access to safe housing because my home was no longer a safe place for me and my children. After my final escape, I became an advocate and began working as an advocate on a national hotline. While working the hotline along with many other advocates we found it very challenging and there were times we could not locate immediate emergency housing/shelter for many survivors, especially during the evening/night and weekends. So I decided to create safehousingnow.com.
Safe housing is a vital resource for survivors, this gives them the security they need to leave abuse without having to fear that doing so will result in them becoming homelessness, as well as providing a safe environment in which they can begin their healing and recovery. Between 22% and 57% of all homeless women report that domestic violence was the immediate cause . For many survivors who flee to be free, immediate access to safe housing provides the answer survivors need in order to leave their abusive relationships. Safehousingnow.com is a safety net resource/benefit that can help survivors of domestic violence escape abuse as well as prevent future harm.
This website, safehousingnow.com is a resource that can be utilized all across the United States and even the world because domestic violence occurs worldwide every day. With your support together we can change the lives of domestic violence survivors who flee to be free.
