I am currently working with two individuals organizing homeless services in Sarasota and North Port, Florida. The following details the programs each would like to offer:

Sarasota

The individual in Sarasota would like to offer a transportation program for adults recently released from incarceration who have a case plan that they must follow in order to retain the custody of their children. Transportation will be provided to them for appointments listed in the case plan. The goal is to reunite the family and help them stay intact. Success is determined by the number of individuals who complete their case plans by attending all required appointments from transportation provided by the organization.

A second program in the planning stages by the organization in Sarasota is a Homeless Prevention program for youth, titled H.O.P.E. for Youth (Homeless Outreach Prevention Emphasis for Youth). It is a new program targeting individuals between the ages of 18-25, teaching them a life skills curriculum with the emphasis of preventing homelessness. The program will be overseen by a licensed mental health counselor and a team of mentors who will work directly with the young adults. The program will support approximately 35-40 young adults and will be determined a success if even one young adult is prevented from a life of homelessness.

My time thus far has been spent in meetings with the organizer developing the programs to glean information for the grant applications and also to plan the programs. I also met with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation regarding these two programs.

North Port

My client in North Port will be offering a day program for homeless individuals and will include showers and a meal. This is a capital campaign as we are starting from scratch and need a building.

My time thus far has been spent researching the organization to get the information the grants require in order to  be submitted and looking for appropriate grant opportunities.

My contract lists a fee for my services, but I have waived the fee for these two organizations because they are in start up mode and do not have funds to pay me. The President of the organization in Sarasota (from here forward will be referred to as SRQ) and I met with a grant agency in Venice a few weeks ago regarding two grant apps I submitted. The grant agency would like to support both applications but in order to do so needs to see some success in both programs first. SRQ therefore has decided to go forward with formulating the plans for both projects and therefore has scheduled upcoming meetings with other involved businesses and organizations. I will be attending those meetings because I am part of the organizing team of the SRQ “staff” and will continue with my regular meetings and work with SRQ’s President for leverage grants that are required by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation grant.

The President of the organization in North Port and I have met only once but I have been working on her organization since, and will be meeting with her again soon to discuss grants I have found that may be appropriate and for which I will be applying. I expect that meeting to take place some time within this week.

SRQ has given me cash payments totaling $65 thus far for my services. They, like the North Port organization, just do not have the funds right now to pay my fee and I don’t want to force the issue because my work is not guaranteed. Therefore, I do not have enough money to pay for my bills related to the business because I do not have any business loans and do not have any grants in the submission stage from which I am expecting payment.

This is why I am starting this YouHelp.

I need help to pay for my website and email services. I need help to pay for ink and paper. I need help to pay for gas to and from Sarasota.  I need help to pay for my online grant subscription so that I can write the grants. I’m having a business open house with the Chamber of North Port and have to pay for the supplies for the open house.  I need a new logo and new pics for Facebook and my website so I need to pay for that.  I need business cards and flyers and stuff to hand out at the open house. Etc., etc. You can see why I’m looking to raise funds on YouHelp.

Would you please at least forward this request if you are not able to make a contribution? Once I become a nonprofit I can submit many grants to support my organization and also have fundraisers. I really don't want to pester my clients for money up front because there is simply no guarantee that my grant submissions will be accepted. Yet, I do need to be paid for my work.

I'm asking for money to pay for the fees to become a nonprofit so that I can write grants for my own organization. If my business is already funded I won't have to charge those nonprofits that do not have the money available yet I will still be able to help them.

RuthAnn Wicks

I am currently working with the organizers of two nonprofits serving the homeless, meeting with them and other organizations to plan future services and programs such as showers, meals, a recovery program for male offenders, day programs, overnight accommodations and a homeless prevention program.
