Sequim City Band is a non-profit community Band founded in 1991 with twelve members. The Band has grown significantly over the ensuing years to approximately 70 active members today. In 2005, the Band funded and built the James Center for the Performing Arts in a Sequim, WA city park. A small all-purpose room located behind the stage created a rehearsal space for the Band and other local musical organizations. This facility is named Swisher Hall after the founder and original conductor of Sequim City Band.
With the growth of the Band and the onset of the latest pandemic, the small, crowded and circulation lacking space became unusable as a rehearsal facility. This necessitated a new capital campaign to build a facility with adequate space, air circulation, air conditioning, lighting and acoustics for the current needs of the musicians with an eye toward future growth and expansion. The Swisher Hall Expansion Project was created.
This facility will be unique on the Olympic Peninsula, serving the needs of Sequim City Band, Sequim Community Orchestra, the Strings Kids program (teaching string playing to local youth) and many other smaller organizations as well. Together with other Music Festival operations, this combined facility of the James Center will be able to host musical talent from across the Pacific Northwest and Canada.
The Band has been able to raise over $1,056,000 to date toward a goal of $1,361,000 to complete the project. The project is currently underway with an expected completion date of February, 2023. We ask for your donation in any amount to help us complete this worthwhile community project. Thank you for considering Sequim City Band's Rehearsal Hall Expansion Project in your charitable giving portfolio.
