According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), found at  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5844393/, "We found strong evidence of a link between weaker social relationships and readmissions to hospital but no evidence on the use of community services or emergency departments. Evidence of moderate strength linked larger social networks to shorter hospital stays. We conclude that current evidence does not support the idea that older patients with low levels of social support use more ambulatory care than they need. Our study suggests that campaigns to reduce isolation or loneliness may not reduce the utilization of ambulatory care services, through strengthening social support could shorten hospital stays and prevent some readmissions."

Therefore reducing isolation by providing companionship to seniors creates better health outcomes for the elderly.  As a minimally sized organization, we can support approximately twelve seniors per week.  Monies are used for assisting in the purchase of light refreshments, board games, reading materials, karaoke tracks, tote swag bags, and cleaning products.  This is a new, much-needed initiative started by PAN OF MD, which occurs year-round.  The cost per person per week is $14.43, making the cost of the program $9,000.
