Within the greater Northern Virginia Community, the homeless population has become larger than ever. Why don't these people work? Why are these people on the corner begging for money? Why are these people living in tent cities in various locations around NOVA? Do people choose to be homeless? All these questions are asked by the Samaritan who is trying to make sense of giving a dollar to a person that may be capable of doing work.
Instead of targeting the homeless population, D4L wants to encourage the community of people interested in helping the homeless population. The level at which, each person who is assigned a homeless person, is able to mentor, lead, and hold accountable this person who is "on the street". Weather it be man or woman, this mentorship program will reach people who think there is no more to life. As well as reach the everyday citizen's heart to want to give their time and resources to someone who is less fortunate.
The money will be spent within the mentorship program. As mentors and mentees need and use resources that will need to be replenished. Resources can be food, water, shelter, clothing, computer systems, gas, electricity, phone bills, and many other things that may aid both the mentor and the mentee.
