My desire and passion for wanting to care for others emerged as a young girl after the sudden death of my grandmother who died of a myocardial infarction at the age of 52. It was then that I realized that I wanted to help others and pursue a career in nursing. Throughout my nursing career, I continued to strive to advocate for my patients and their families and to provide them with exceptional care. Although advocacy is within the Scope of Practice of Nursing, due to high work demands, limited resources, and high patient acuity levels, nurses are often unable to advocate for their patients as our hearts desire to do so.

In 2017, I was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder, known as Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). I suddenly became paraplegic and lost vision in both eyes. It was then that I quickly realized what it was like to be a patient at the complete mercy of several different medical providers at various fast-paced hospitals and rehabilitation centers. My years of knowledge as a provider was of some use but it didn’t take the place of feeling alone, vulnerable, and quite often as if my voice concerning my healthcare and well-being was of no value.

Due to God’s grace and mercy and after several months of intense difficult treatments, rehabilitation, and strong support from my spouse, family, and friends, I regained my ability to walk, see and work on a per-diem basis. I am a faithful Christian so when God put in my heart to find a way to help others on a deeper level, I became even more passionate about advocating for the health and well-being of others. It is now my mission to advocate for others and to empower them with the tools and resources necessary to ensure they receive quality healthcare; that their voices are heard and their needs are met!

All About You Healthcare Advocates need donations that would assist us with the operational costs such as EMR and security maintenance, advertisement, DocuSign/secure record-keeping, phone service expenses, and funding to be able to properly screen (perform background checks), hire, and compensate non-volunteer employees. Donations would also help provide for professional liability business insurance and proper training and education for our staff and volunteers. Charitable funds will primarily be allocated to helping our clients with any aspect of their medical needs (i.e. consultation services and advocacy services with our professional medical advocates to assist our clients with the tools needed to properly educate our clients about good health and wellness. The donations would also help us collaborate with our clients' healthcare providers to help bridge any gaps concerning their care, medical records review, and connecting our clients to other community resources. Donations would also assist with paying for medication and transportation expenses. We would like to offer our time and resources to our clients at no cost.
