100% of our net fundraising and donations are used to purchase musical instruments and art supplies for donation to teen/young adult inpatient rehab/mental health facilities for use during the clients' free time, to decrease their anxiety and channel their feelings into more positive, creative outlets. As Board Members, we take no compensation. We have such wonderful volunteers!
This year, 2020, we have had to cancel our planned spring fundraiser, and, unfortunately, we have had to cancel our Annual RUN for JEFF 5K Run/1K Walk on October 11, 2020, due to the uncertainty of venues due to Covid-19. For additional information, please see our website: https://www.jmdmf.org.
Our budget is very small, and we rely solely on fundraisers, sponsors, and our donors' generous donations. Without them, we could not complete our Mission.
Jeff was the son of a mother's dreams. He was so caring toward his sisters and me; he thought of others before himself, always. At 18, his most difficult times in rehab were the few free minute intervals given every day. He told me his mind would automatically gravitate back to "his dark thoughts". One day, one of the guys handed him his acoustic guitar to use during his free time, showed him a few chords, and before long, Jeff was playing songs from the radio by ear. Eventually, he taught himself the bass guitar and drums, and was writing music and lyrics, and had an offer to record before he passed away at 22 years old.
My daughters and I have decided to do this for others, for Jeff in his name. In every facility where we have donated, the counselors and managers have shared with us the difference our donations have made. They have told us that the clients do have less anxiety, and the clients are very excited when we are there to donate! One facility's clientele has even started (on their own) a Talent Show every month to showcase what they are doing with our donations! We allow the facilities to give us a Wish List, and we try very hard to fill everything on their list. We have donated saxophones, violins, bass and acoustic guitars, amplifiers, electric keyboards, and drum sets, boxes and boxes of art and craft supplies, easels, canvases of all sizes, scrapbooking supplies, bracelet making, everything for the beginner to the advanced artist.
We need your help, especially this year. Addiction knows no boundaries, no religious, socioeconomic, geographic, or political boundaries. Addiction does not know this is the year of Covid-19. Whether from a "good family" or a "broken home", addiction is completely random. We never know when it will hit home. Our young people need your help.
Please donate today and help us to fulfill our Mission. Thank YOU so much! We could not DO what we DO without YOU!

Cheryl Dehlin lost her son, Jeff, to an overdose at 22, after 4 years of sobriety once he had spent 104 days at Rosecrance in Rockford. Jeffs only difficulty during rehab was his few minutes of free time, until he picked up a friends guitar and began to teach himself to play. Music saved him.
Love you and your passion for this cause!
