Specifically, the foundation offers athletic camps to the youth within these communities. These camps hone in on abilities such as sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and respect for diversity, which are all skills that once learned, can be applied on the community level to develop good citizenship habits, therefore giving these children a guideline to becoming respectable members of their neighborhood and becoming role models for other children around them. Overall, young community members who participate in the camps are left with the skills to better themselves, as well as the knowledge of accessible mentors who have the ability to assist them in the future with issues facing both themselves and their community as a whole.
Children who are included in the programming that the Morlon Greenwood Foundation provides often come from single parent households or are considered “latchkey” children, who are left home alone while the parents in the household work long hours to provide for the family. These factors are both hallmarks of community disorganization and may lead to issues such as juvenile crime, which can evolve to serious adult crimes, including violent crimes, later in life. Thus, it is necessary to develop effective programming, such as those within our particular organization that are aimed towards at-risk youth populations. Programs such as those at the Morlon Greenwood Foundation keep vulnerable children off the street and allows them to stay occupied in a manner that contributes positively to personal growth and development. Thus, the types of activities and programming geared towards this specific population of youth discourage delinquency and instill values that are conducive to law abiding behavior, both as juveniles and in their later adult lives.
Ultimately the Morlon Greenwood Foundation would seek to establish it’s own. These facilities will be establish in multiple locations in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV to make it accessible to youth in those selected communities. This will enable the Morlon Greenwood Foundation to accomplish the aforementioned year round. Specifically the facility will be utilized for after school programs such as tutoring, mentorship, mental & behavioral health, trade school, culinary and a variety of sports programs such as football, soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis etc. We will provide meals for the participants, physical therapy and training room accessibility for the student/athletes that need it. We will be able to implement our R.A.I.S.E. U.P. program to development mentorship amongst the youth to instill responsibility, awareness, inspiration, success, and ethics. 2nd graders will be mentoring 1st grader, 3rd graders mentoring 2nd graders all the way up to the professional level. This will encourage the constant cycle of mentorship and ensure the sustainability of our R.A.I.S.E. U.P. Alumni Program. We are excited about the effectiveness of this model and once established here in Las Vegas we will duplicate it all over the USA and then the World.
