The funds will be used to bridge the gap in what the client can pay and my modest rate of $60 per session.  For example, if I client can only afford to pay $20 then I would use the funds that I raise to make up the difference.  The funds would also allow me to conduct group sessions,  workshops, and individual sessions in community agencies that currently do not have a mental health component in their services.

True Calling Counseling & Consulting Services,  LLC is a dream for me - because many African Americans and others view mental health services from a negative lens - I want to be a face of change in my community.  I want to help reduce the STIGMA around seeking mental health support

I felt a calling on my life to make a significant change in careers in 2015.  I retired early from a local company after 25 years and decided to go back to school full time to get my counseling degree.   I became licensed in October of last year and also opened my private practice in the community in which I wanted to serve.

I truly need the funds in order to build and to maintain my practice as I continue to develop opportunities within the community and move toward a self-sustaining practice.

No amount is too small!!!

Making Mental Health More Accessible

Joycelyn Johnson, on behalf of

True Calling Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC

Many of the people whom I wish to serve cannot afford the higher end mental health session fees while others do not qualify for the community-based mental health programs. I want to bridge the gap by providing services to those who want counseling but still find it hard to work in there budget

Joycelyn Johnson

She is passionate about providing mental health services to populations who may be hesitant to talk to anyone about their life circumstances. She used mental health services herself to address the sexual, physical, and emotional abuse that she suffered during her childhood and wants to help others.
