Here is my story and how I came to start, Le Soleil De Vie Foundation. For 12 years I served in children's ministry at my church. I taught Sunday school and volunteered with our Awanas children's program during the week. Then in 2017 I went on my first mission to Haiti to participate in starting a children's Awanas program with 5 churches, which grew into 20 churches by the next year. Prior to this Haiti did not have children's ministries with their churches.
The plight of children in Haiti is very distressing. One of the saddest realities in Haiti is how their children are burdened. In Haiti when parents can't provide for their child they are sold to a host family as domestic servants. They are called restavek. The arrangement can be considered a form of child slavery. The host is not required to care for the health of the child servant.
On my second trip to Haiti, I went with a medical mission to serve children in orphanages. Medical care is very hard to get in Haiti, supplies are close to none, and if you need to be hospitalized you have to pay upfront the total cost before you can be admitted.
Haiti is one the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, just off the coast of the US about a 3 hour flight from Florida. The need is so grand, and the poverty so unbelievable to the American eye it is overwhelming and honestly depressing.

The thought of trying to help can be discouraging because the need is too great and you feel like there is nothing you can do to make a difference. I know I came home after my first trip thinking like that, defeated. But I will tell you what made the difference in my heart. It is the people. The heart and happy loving spirit of the Haitians will have you wondering what is wrong with America, we have everything you could possibly need ever, even as a single mom here, I have an abundance more than anyone there. I developed friends in Haiti, and my heart wanted to do something to make their life better.

On a visit to a school one summer in Haiti, I was playing with the children when I stopped for a water break, a sip from my water bottle. A little girl looked and asked me quietly, "may I have some?" With a heavy heart, I had to say no, with nothing to offer. That was the last time I picked up a bottle of water while out on mission working with children.

I knew then how I was going to do my part to help. I started looking into how much it cost to build wells in Haiti. It took 3 years with the Covid pandemic halting life, for it all to get started.

Then the birth of Le Soleil De Vie, and my first water project was completed in November of 2021.
