Second Line with Treme Sidewalk Steppers 2015 - Video by Cosette Richard
Freedom's Dance: Social, Aid and Pleasure Clubs in New Orleans (LSU Press) - narrative by Karen Celestan with photographs by Eric Waters - is a new book that details all aspects of the Second Line parade tradition as presented by benevolent and social clubs. This tradition dates back to the earliest days of African life in New Orleans and is an integral part of the city's distinctive culture.
The book is scheduled to be released in February 2018 and both Celestan and Waters live outside of New Orleans. This campaign is being launched to assist with travel costs tied to the book tour for Celestan, Waters and selected SAPC members with a small brass band to demonstrate the vibrancy of a Second Line in selected cities. This is an academic work being published by an academic press, meaning funds are not provided for the promotional tour. The co-authors are responsible for all travel costs and they intend to support the culture-bearers, who are all working-class people, so they may also join the tour.
