The political conflict resulting in extreme violence and brutality has caused families to flee their homes and schools to neighboring  cities in peaceful areas of  Cameroon.  Meantime, KISHERI ORGANIZATION has worked with over 30 young girls internally displaced to Yaounde where they experience economic hardship and sexual abuse in their new homes.  With assistance from KISHERI many manage to complete high school. This project targets 20 of such students and provides funds for their college  education.

The projected twenty thousand dollars will provide housing,  fees, books and academic supplies as well as  laptops and phones for 20 students for one academic year. KISHERI ORGANIZATION will also partner with community agencies with similar goals, and organize group and individual counseling and scholarly orientation sessions with the students. Ultimately, the women will be leaders in their communities

  1. 20 water system rooms
  2. Furniture: Beds, study tables, cook stove and cooking utensils
  3. Text and exercise books
  4. 20 Laptops for individual use
  5. 5 Desk tops for group sharing
  6. Providing 3 meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
  7. 20 cell phones
  8. School outfits, clothes, shoes
  9. Pocket money for personal effects
  10. Emergency funds

Counseling Costs:

Fees for counselors

Production of resource materials

Rent of space

Participants transportation to training

The local coordinator in Bamenda will do the necessary groundwork and purchases.

Group Counseling:

We’d facilitate  three group counseling sessions with the 20 students to prepare them for college expectations, share  their school needs, introduce them  to their new environment, as well as  explain the role of KISHERI ORGANIZATION in the pursuit of education.  Emphasis will be placed on them giving back to their community after their education

 Individual Counseling:

We’d  also organize individual counseling sessions to determine their fears and concerns, assess their progress and evaluate their progress in school.

Networking:

Some of the students are traumatized by the crisis and are suffering from psychosocial effects of the violence.  Affected students will be introduced to local community leaders and services with goals and objectives that address their health needs.   KISHERI will partner with local NGOs and government agencies that offer assistance to especially victims of violence.

Evaluation:

Participating students will be given questionnaires to determine their satisfaction of the program, their recommendations for improvement and their plans to give back to the community.

KISHERI ORGANIZATION is educating these young girls to assume future leadership roles in building peaceful and  stable communities for a more productive and prosperous nation.
