Xander understands that it hurts enough to lose a child, but how to handle final arrangements and expenses should not.  If a family cannot afford the total cost of a funeral and or burial, Xander is there to help.  Xander works with local funeral directors on behalf of the family to remove any barriers in honoring children with a final expression of love.  Xander also understands that grief is a process and that we all grieve at our own pace.

When a family faces such an unspeakable trauma, whether by natural causes, accident, homicide or suicide, Xander steps in to assist families during phases of this difficult time.

Xander is a newer organization and seeking to add $5,000 to our funding base to allow us to achieve the specific vision and mission of our organization and create other positive impacts on the community.  Due to COVID-19, many have lost their jobs and many families who have lost a child are facing a lack of funds to have the basic right to a proper funeral and burial for their child.

Our Vision: In the event of child death, regardless of age or cause, every Wayne County, Michigan family shall have a proper funeral and burial, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.

Our Mission: To support, advocate and facilitate a pathway to healing for Wayne County, Michigan families dealing with the trauma of child death, in alliance with a network of community partners and resources.

Traci Lee-Brown

Xander was born as an idea by Founder and Executive Director, Traci Lee-Brown, M.A. in 2017. As a 29-year social worker in child welfare, she witnessed child deaths firsthand and the effects that the deaths had on the parents, siblings and extended family members. She often had contact with parents who were understandably devastated and often fell into depression after the death of a child. A great deal of these parents over the years were not only traumatized by the death, but then endured shame, as the
