Have you heard of The Oglala Lakotas on Pine Ridge Reservation?

It is the poorest community in the U.S. By poor I don’t mean times are rough poor, I mean third world country poor.

The majority of the residents on the Reservation lack basic human needs, food, running water, plumbing, electricity, heat, clothing, shoes. Often you may find 3 or 4 generations crammed in a very small residence, they sleep on the floor, the bare floor, no mattress. Pillows and blankets are a luxury item.  We are so heartbroken and angry that anyone lives in The United States of America in these conditions, like a third world country. We are in disbelief that we have these very elaborate commercials and various advertisements with the families in other countries living in these same tragic conditions asking us to help them, making us aware of their existence, yet the average American has no idea that this is going on right here in our own backyard!

Native Promise is currently trying to gain 501(c)3, status. This is an expensive process, the application is several hundred dollars and we will also require attorney fees. Once we have 501(c)3 status we will have access to a lot of grants to create programs to empower the residents of Pine Ridge to become self sufficient.
