In the summer of 2010, Ms. Sherman received a call that no one ever wants to receive.  Her close friend's three-month-old little girl, Lilly, had passed away from SIDS.  Lilly's family was struggling financially and could not afford to bury her.  Through the kindness of the small East Texas community where the family resided, Lilly was laid to rest.  However, it struck Ms. Sherman that Lilly's family was not the first family to find themselves in these shoes, nor would they be the last.

Lilly's passing became the match that lit the fire that fueled the birth of The Shooting Star Foundation.   We at the Shooting Star Foundation believe that a family who is already struggling financially should not have to worry about how they are going to afford to bury their child. We also believe that access to grief counseling in the wake of such a loss is vital to helping the family unit remain intact.

We are in dire need of funds to assist with our startup cost-staff attorney's fees for our partnership agreements a d 501 application, office equipment-laptop, printer, and cell phone,  web hosting fees,  Office 365 and Adobe software  fees, staff salaries and also to begin assisting Houston area families with the cost of caskets, interment, urns and grief counseling copays. Our goal is to begin providing services in the community by mid-2019 or sooner.
