I am asking for $300-000,00 which shall go towards the following:
In 2014 i organised the first ever parliamentary debates in all 57 constituencies finishing with 2 presidential debates. The ruling party refused to partake just as they had shunned appearing on my current affairs radio show. For the first time in the history of Botswana the party (in power for more than half a century) despite winning at the polls received less than 50% of the popular vote. They were not happy and applied more pressure on my employer who eventually fired me without cause. The next election is in October 2019. I wish to replicate what i did and even do more by continuing to demand accountability from government.
Being a small country with a population of just over 2million Botswana has a media that is largely dependent on government advertising for revenue. This means the government can and does hold the media at ransom when it comes to news reporting (as evidenced by the 2014 advertising ban on certain media houses deemed to be reporting critical stories of the government). My vision is to be less reliant on the government for revenue and more on ordinary people and private advertisers.
Having suffered constant harassment and persecution at the hands of state intelligence agents I wish to instil a sense of perseverance on the next generation. I intend to employ at least 20 unemployed and out of school youths to work as mobile journalists. In that way I shall be cultivating the next generation of reporters who shall continue to hold our elected officials to account while informing and educating citizens about their rights.
The money shall greatly help in the purchase of basic equipment (a vision mixer, ptz cameras for the studio, mobile phone units to use as field cameras, office furniture and operational costs for 6 months until we become self-sufficient.

Mr Richardson is a multi-award winning broadcast journalist in Botswana. Repeatedly persecuted by his government, he was mysteriously fired from his job as a current affairs presenter at a local radio station in 2016 because of his hard-hitting shows focused on holding elected officials to account.
