I have been a health care worker for 19years. Giving all of myself to the care and support of others. I loved every minute of my career. My health took a nosedive after the birth of my firstborn in 2016. Then in May 2019, I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (constant pain and fatigue). In Nov 2019 I lost my job as Operations Manager for our local Hospice. The Fibromyalgia caused cognitive issues that made everyday activities seem impossible. I started a small Guesthouse, then Covid-19 happened and tourism as we knew it died.
I have been a Beekeeper for the past 4years and did a course with Bee expert, Mike Rex who works for the National Parks Service. I do free bee removals' and re-home the bees on a small-holding called De Hoek. I made an offer-to-purchase De Hoek farm Pre-Covid-19, but then everything got held up, and now I no longer qualify for mortgage finance.
YouHelp is my last effort in a long list of plans that I have been making to keep this piece of land. Although it looks terrible with the erosion and drought, I can see it's beauty and I feel whole when I'm there. For the past year, I have been maintaining the land, there are about 15head of cattle, I've grown a vegetable garden and I've employed 4 local people who would not otherwise have an income. Every week I cart garden and household compostable waste out to the farm to fill up the erosion ditches. I go past people's home's on rubbish collection day and I take their garden waste. I believe that my efforts are worthwhile and I would like to expand on composting household waste in our area in the near future. But I need to secure my little piece of heaven. Would you like to be part of it?
