Private donations are needed to succeed with our program. The purpose is to support the needs of the community in regard to injury prevention to Brown and surrounding counties. This includes fall prevention, educational opportunities and promotion of programs, injury referral systems, and injury prevention equipment to seniors and the others with disabilities without any discrimination. Our focus is to provide to the community using community funds to keep families together, at home and injury free. With the growing number of older adults in the community and the increasing number of those adults with multiple chronic conditions, disability and the resultant mobility problems are anticipated to become even more widespread. Falls in older adults are common and may result in serious injuries. The project summary of this nonprofit is to decrease the number of senior falls in local areas by providing proper equipment used to stabilize and increase mobility, provide proper fitting shoes, increase educational opportunities to all seniors and seek to encourage individuals, communities, and governments to work together to reduce falls risk among older adults and make available evidence based solutions to prevent falls in the home and community, as well as strategies to support complete recovery from falls. Ultimately save lives...

The overarching goals for the Community Injury Prevention Program are to:

·     Expand the delivery of health care services to include new and enhanced services exclusively in suburban and rural communities;

·     Utilize community engagement and evidence-based programs to reduce injuries; (Stepping On Program, see below for details)

·     Identify activities that build and strengthen the community.

·     Collaborate with and identify agencies within identified communities

·     and increase overall participation by 50%.

·     To decrease regional fall data from 65 years and older by 10%.

  • One out of five falls causes a serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury.
  • Each year, 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries.
  • Over 800,000 patients a year are hospitalized because of a fall injury, most often because of a head injury or hip fracture.
  • Each year at least 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures.
  • More than 95% of hip fractures are caused by falling, 8 usually by falling sideways.
  • Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
  • In 2015, the total medical costs for falls totaled more than $50 billion. Medicare and Medicaid shouldered 75% of these costs.
