As a newly formed nonprofit, we wish to raise awareness of the complex needs of men, women, boys, and girls involved in the criminal justice system. Our team has over 50 years of combined expertise regarding gender specific pathways to crime and addiction and patterns of recovery. Our experts can provide criminal justice and substance use treatment professionals and other state and county agencies with up-to-date research and information regarding treatment interventions including information on former offender needs, setting, implementation, and multi-agency collaboration.
This is often an invisible population who are desperately in need of guidance, treatment programs, and housing. The prevalence of childhood abuse and household dysfunction is insurmountably higher for this population, compared with those in the general population.
Our long-term vision is to open a Wellness Center providing services and activities from dedicated volunteer professionals from the community. We anticipate creating a monthly menu of social service connections and pro-social activities that encompass a variety of events designed to improve the health and quality of life for this often underserved population. Our team of volunteers will help them engage in and navigate the social and health services available in their communities. Our team will guide them in creating strategies to overcome barriers to accessing available services. Another goal of the Center will be to provide an array of pro-social activities and learning opportunities in a safe and serene environment.
Our goal is to find the perfect location to make this vision come true, but we cannot do that without support. Currently we are striving to raise funds to create a short documentary of the lives, challenges, and successes of formerly incarcerated people. The intent is to use the documentary as a platform for education and larger fund raising activities. Please consider this request for help or guidance.
