I’m writing to ask you to support me and my efforts in raising funds to open a high-quality early childhood learning center for under-served children in Baton Rouge, La. Just a small donation of $5 can help us promote, enhance and encourage positive youth development in children birth to 12 years of age.
We believe that each child is an individual. We are sensitive to each child's development needs and strive to provide an encouraging and well-balanced environment in which the child will develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. We believe children deserve the opportunity to excel at their own pace. At Miles of Smiles, we will provide each child with this opportunity with your help.
"The Louisiana Department of Education started the process of serving over 4,500 children in the state's only state-administered Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), which provides financial assistance to low-income families while parents are working or attending school. This action comes after Congress appropriated additional one-time child care funds to Louisiana. This aid applies to children birth to four years of age. However, the waiting list for child care assistance support is expected to go back to about 7,000 in one year after the one-time dollars are spent."
Consequently, Louisiana families are in desperate need of high-quality, cost-effective child care and education now. "According to the latest Kids Count report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation found two out of three children under the age of five have both parents or a single parent working. In total, 173,000 children birth to age three are currently in need of early learning services in Louisiana." (www.nola.com)
The funds raised will be used for start-up costs such as, but not limited to: building lease ($24,000); teacher hires ($120,000); kitchen retrofits ($4000); initial advertising ($2,000); permits and licensing ($1,000); initial food supply ($1,000); and cash reserves as we ramp up ($20,000).
