Arizona Band of Brothers is a 501(c)3 organization that provides survivors of a brain injury long-term supported living. The greatest challenge in providing appropriate, meaningful, long-term supported living and proper levels of care for high-functioning adult men who are survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI, also known as Acquired Brain Injury or ABI, is the lack of available services.
The specific groups of TBI survivors whose needs AZ BOB strives to meet are single males, often veterans injured while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and those injured in daily life situations, such as vehicle and motorcycle accidents. Many of our men require limited supervision and assistance to care for their daily personal needs and to manage schedules and household responsibilities.
This group does not require hospital, skilled nursing or nursing home care, but they also aren't ready or able to live fully independent lives. Once ready to be released from post-acute care or rehabilitation facilities, many have nowhere to go and become homeless. Our goal is to provide a loving and caring home environment where brotherly companionship and friendships are formed and nurtured.
Often, parents or close family members have taken the responsibility as primary care givers. Many survivors are placed in nursing home settings that do not challenge their levels of ability or help develop independent living skills. We will provide a structured and supported living atmosphere that will be both challenging and contribute to the home as well as the community in which we live.
