Who you vote for is not our business!

The heat is on in the presidential elections. The campaigning and fundraising are in full swing. As a fundraiser for a nonprofit, you were presumably hired for your conversational skills. You probably have a very high level of emotional intelligence. So you ought to know this rule but I will spell it out for you anyway. Don’t fall into a political trap with your donors! If you are asked by your donors ”By the way John who are you voting for” Respond with a smile and with an air of confidence ”Who you vote for is not our business, who you give charity to is our business”!

Here is a joke for you to share on your Facebook or Twitter accounts which might help your charity be in and out of the conversation at the same time.

While walking down the street one day a corrupt senator (that may be redundant) was tragically hit by a car and died.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
“Welcome to heaven,” says St. Peter “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you..”
“No problem, just let me in,” says the Senator.
“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from the higher-ups. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”
“Really?, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,” says the Senator.
“I’m sorry, but we have our rules.”

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course.
In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening attire. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar, and the finest wines and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, “Now it’s time to visit heaven…”
So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

“Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.”
The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.”
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell…
Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls to the ground.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.
“I don’t understand,” stammers the Senator. “Yesterday I was here and there were a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?”
The devil smiles at him and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning, “Today, you voted.”
Vote wisely in November.

Our country has had so many crisis over the last year.

Our country has had so many crisis over the last year. There is no donor that has not been effected by the pandemic in one way or the other. Since basically the country is split in half you have a 50 percent chance of ticking off your donor and loosing a donation. On the other hand your donation amount will probably not go up a nickel for choosing the donors candidate.

Remind donors that there is a reason why the ballots are cast in private. Donors can respect your privacy and you can intern compliment them on their passion for their candidate.

Here at YouHelp.com we have our own slogan during theses times and it goes like this

Inspire your donors by sharing your story

Inspire your donors by sharing your story. There is a reason why you decided to open a nonprofit. A story that perhaps you are a bit uncomfortable to share. Raising money is about connecting with people. People understand who you are and what you stand for by your actions. There is nothing more motivating for a donor than an authentic inspirational story.

One organization leader shared her very moving personal story with crowds of people she had never met before. Her story was very emotional. She recalled being a 14-year-old girl who witnessed first hand a terrorist bombing in Israel. She described how she ran down to the burning bus where people were screaming for their lives however she is held back because of her age.

Later in life, she went on to share her story with as many people as possible

Later in life, she went on to share her story with as many people as possible. She described in full detail the pain and suffering and the magnitude of the injustice. Her story was coming directly from the heart and went directly into the donor’s hearts.

She made a compelling argument to the donors of what a crime it is to sit by and do nothing when men woman and children are crying for help. She proclaimed that one must be proud of having the ability to help. The authenticity of the mission and the positive outlook completely resonated with the potential donors. Those donors over years became friends and those friends brought in new friends.

These days we do not have the luxury of inviting donors to a gathering and nonprofits must transition to online fundraising. using Facebook nonprofits can share their story just the same.

It is true that during COVID19 nonprofits have to work double as hard to raise half the amount of money. This is an unfortunate reality of the times. If you and your charity are willing to do the work, share your stories, and promote your mission then YouHelp.com will fight along with you to succeed.

Our crowdfunding platform Youhelp.com has several great tools that can help you learn how to share your personal story to the public.

If your charity needs help with telling your story YouHelp.com offers nonprofits assistance programs. Send an email to support@YouHelp.com to see if your nonprofit qualifies.
