The dearth of G.E.D. programs available on Saturday in Baltimore was almost non-existent and we believe this is our greatest advantage.  Our Leading the Pack! G.E.D. Preparation and Training Program positively impacted 14 at-risk, disadvantaged young adults in Baltimore, MD.   Our program started on January 4, 2020, and concluded on May 16, 2020.   Some of our participants continue to study and prepare for the proxy exam, and we continue to provide wrap-around services for our participants.   Participant #108 passed the first exam and is currently studying for the next test!  Participant #113 did not pass the first test (scored 138 and needed 145) but he is preparing for his re-test in next week.   We are continuing our efforts to provide extended academic and continuous emotional support, which is critical to help them believe in themselves.  We are STILL here for all of them -- continuing to provide academic instruction so that they can better comprehend so that their chances to pass the proxy exam will increase.   The other participants continue studying and preparing for the test and will take the exam when they believe they are ready.  We are rooting for ALL of them!

INSPIRING G-STYLE, INC. is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  Our Maryland Charitable Organization is #45523.  We are seeking donations, which will go directly to providing wrap-around post-GED supportive services for the participants of our Leading the Pack! G.E.D. Preparation and Training Program.  More specifically, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuously contacted by our participants to help with transportation costs to and from the available testing sites (which are on the outskirts of Baltimore) and to pay for exams.   Donations will be used for these costs.

Our G.E.D. program addressed two critical needs: a) the scarcity of G.E.D. programs available on the weekend, and 2) the chance for better employability skills and increase aptitude.   Our program has a great cause-and-effect impact on the quality of life now for our participants and for their future in several ways: 1) obtaining a G.E.D. is seen as a rite of passage for current and future employment opportunities; 2) employers look at a G.E.D. as demonstrating one can follow rules and regulations as opposed to having no G.E.D.; 3) more educational opportunities, e.g., many trade and vocational schools accept the G.E.D.; 4) participants will enhance the overall knowledge base and learning capacity; and 5) obtaining their G.E.D. will increase wage-earning power.  Therefore, our program served a dual focus and purpose—literacy and economic empowerment.  We are focused on providing supportive services to our participants, as well as implementing facets of our soft skills training program so that individuals can begin to prepare for a brighter future.

Lagena Smith, on behalf of

Inspiring G-Style, Inc.

According to the U.S. Census (2014), there are 619,493 people who live in Baltimore, MD, and a 2019 white paper report estimated 80,768 individuals in Baltimore City do not have a high school diploma. INSPIRING G-STYLE created a solution to the lack of literacy programs available on the weekend.
