The Aim to Achieve project for which we are requesting funds will make a difference in the lives of these youth by providing a safe place to enhance relationships, learn skills and enhance self-confidence, self-respect and an appreciation of their own worth as individuals. A vital part of our project is informing our participants the necessity of setting strategic short-term goals and how it is an effective way to achieve lifelong goals. We plan to prepare the participants with college readiness and a College tour to Washington DC. We hope to educate the youth on some options of four-year institutions while also exposing them to new experiences and pivotal moments in American history. There’s also the element of service learning, with the goal of building teamwork and leadership skills. Ultimately, we’d like to increase our students’ interest in furthering their education and embracing the college opportunities.
The components of this program will ignite the passions of youth and help them overcome adversity while propelling them into their purpose and prosperity. The program can and has helped isolated teenage girls learn to interact in a positive group setting, and has helped more outgoing teenage girls excel at team building. Overall the program will help teenage girls gain insight into culture awareness, overcoming fears, and building self-confidence as well as self-empowerment. The program addresses a multitude of needs in our community. We emphasize the importance of education, which ultimately decreases high school dropout rates. We always stress the importance of safe sex to our girls and present the difficulties of being a teenage as a way to prevent teenage pregnancy. We encourage mentees to become future mentors as a way for us all to positively invest in our communities by empowering future generations.
