At Ahava Therapy and Wellness Center, we are here to serve our community and provide support for those suffering from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other stress disorders due to trauma. We want to be a resource for the entire community, especially veterans, active duty military, first responders, sexual assault victims, and victims of domestic violence.
"Ahava" is a Hebrew name meaning love. The word Love has many different translations. The Greeks used the word "Agape" which translated means "Selfless Universal Love", or "Self-Sacrificial and Intentional Love". This is the type of love that our Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and First Responders have and continue to show every day through the sacrifices they make in service to their country and community.
Ahava's definition of love follows these principles and goes further incorporating the definition of love from Thomas Aquinas which is a choice "to will the good of another." This idea of "to will the good of another" is unconditional and bigger than ourselves and we follow this principle by answering the call to serve everyone in our program. This love influences the way our organization runs and is the primary driving force behind our approach to Therapy. The biggest question we get is why horses?
Horses are highly sensitive to the slightest change in the emotions of the others in their herd, which means they can sense inconsistency between how we are feeling on the inside and how we are acting on the outside.
Simple interactions with them and even just being in their presence can bring buried emotions to the surface and expose negative emotions and patterns of thoughts and behaviors. Once aware of these patterns, we can begin to treat their root causes, Teach ways to overcome them and begin to provide healing and restore hope.
Our program takes a holistic approach to healing. Though Horses and Equine Assisted Therapy are the foundation of our program, we also incorporate, Pastoral counseling, Reiki healing, and Life Coaches to treat those in our care. By using multiple therapeutic touch points we can help participants achieve relief from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other stress disorders resulting from trauma. Each therapy session teaches skills that people can use to get through everyday life situations during and after the program. The goal of our program is to Restore individual wellness, inner peace, and self-love and to heal the invisible wounds caused by trauma.
As a non-profit public charity, we rely solely on donations. Your donation of any amount to our herd helps keep our therapy services free for all admitted to our program and allow us to offer a lifetime of support. Answering the Call to Serve Others with Love and Understanding, Providing Support, and Restoring Hope is more than what we do at Ahava, it is a reflection of who we are. Please donate and help us complete our mission to:
"Provide healing and Restore Hope!"
