When I moved from Africa to the USA in 2014, I experienced unbelievable changes that included lack of basic needs, a daily meal and homelessness. The Franciscan Sisters of Saint Paul who operated a food shelf saw something in me that made them provide my first employment in Minnesota, USA. They paid the down payment for my studio and offered a scholarship to start school at the University of Saint Catherine, St Paul- Social Work.

Yes, I remember Sister Mary Wolfe (of Blessed Memory) reminding me of the importance of gratitude and willingness to give back to the needy. When I graduated with Master in Social Work, I walked in to present my certificate to Sister Mary Wolfe. Kneeling in front of Sister Mary Wolfe sitting in her wheelchair, and in a loving- soft voice she said, "Today marks the beginning of your services to human beings and not the people." Her last words to me triggered that zeal to provide for those who genuinely cry for help and provide holistic care to the emotionally challenged. As a culturally oriented clinician, I volunteer to provide community education, workshops, seminars, training that support a healthy environment and general healthy wellbeing.  Therefore, my immense love to serve the refugee/immigrants from Africa culturally oriented mental, emotional and behavioral health services and Ethnic food to nourish and support general health wellbeing.

The pandemic, civil unrest in Minnesota, and the global economic instability increased food insecurity challenges for minority groups, especially the seniors and children of African descent. Even though Minnesota is home to robust food shelves, it is difficult to find African ethnic food items on the food shelves. The AfroCare team coordinated a Covid-19 African community conversations last December 2020. During the conversation, the African-born seniors requested an African ethnic food pantry. The request led to the creation of the AfroCare Ethnic food pantry.  One of Afrocare's major goals is to serve the seniors and children of African descent Africa ethnic food that promotes physical, psychological, and emotional health. The AfroCare Services, INC Board listened to the crying voices of the seniors and children and supported the creation of the African Ethnic Food Drive.

AfroCare distributes ethnic food quarterly. The last distribution was December 2021 and the next distribution will be in April 2022. Please donate to support a weekly distribute of African Ethnic food,
